Beaten Thief was a Police Officer
Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): On March 11, 2020, at 1 pm, a 28-year-old man, Lon Pheareth, got badly beaten after stealing a motorbike in Tropeang Thleng 2 village, Sangkat Chom Chao 1, Khan Porsenchey, Phnom Penh. The victims of the theft were identified as Chen Leak, 36 years old, and her husband, Phoung Phally, 32 years old.
The suspect said he is a police officer at the Ministry of Interior. After checking the suspect's body, the police found some tools for stealing the motorbike and the police ID card.
The victim said she just came back from delivering some stuff from Chum Povong market, left her motorbike, and went inside her shop. Then, the woman heard her motorbike start up, and she came out and saw the suspect attempting to leave on her vehicle. Suddenly, she called her husband and neighbors for help. The local people pitched in to capture the suspect and beat him up to teach him a lesson before calling the cops
The suspect has been questioned at the police station for case preparation and the victim has filed a complaint.

Re: Beaten Thief was a Police Officer
How extensive is the entry procedure into the national police or military units? Some of these have become much more disciplined over the years, the GRK and BHQ for example. The Flying Tigers and Justice/ Intervention police seem on the ball too. Is this guy Sangkat police? I've heard of some really dodgy ex cons getting police badges, and I know of GRK guys who are serving long stretches for involvement in illicit business. It's hard to know what to believe.
Silence, exile, and cunning.
