Dangerous Nine-Storey Building to be Demolished in Sihanoukville
Cambodia Breaking News: The Ministry of Land Management has ordered the demolition of a nine-storey building in Sihanoukville after finding it defective.
(August 10, 2019 9:17 am)
(Preah Sihanouk) - According to a press release from the Ministry of Land Management, this morning on 10 August 2019, the technical team of the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction of the province has inspected a newly constructed nine-story building in Sihanoukville city.
It seems that the official inspection follows a complaint on social media with photos showing that the building is unsound and likely to collapse. It was recorded that on 8 August the building dropped 40-80mm, and then a further 9mm on 9 August, and the walls and floors continue to move and crack. As a result of the public outrage, the authorities moved into immediate action.
It turns out that the building is technically unsound and has no construction permit, and orders have been given that it must be evacuated and demolished. People living close by have also been ordered to evacuate for their safety.

At last some action but only because of complaints. So are they going to make an inspection of all buildings and an examination of building permits?
Lets hope so!

A crackdown has been announced. Follow up was a bit slow until now, and this is surely not the only defective building in Sihanoukville.paul.smith wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2019 2:30 pm At last some action but only because of complaints. They could start by checking the foundations of those casino buildings.

Demolition of 14 unsafe buildings in Sihanoukville ordered
Preah Sihanouk Provincial Governor Kuoch Chamroeun has ordered authorities to demolish 14 recently-constructed buildings in Sihanoukville after they were deemed unsafe.

Preah Sihanouk again orders 10 buildings to be demolished
The Preah Sihanouk provincial administration on Monday met 10 out of 14 owners of recently-constructed buildings that were deemed unsafe and to warn that it would take legal action if they refused to demolish them.
The administration previously issued three demolition orders to the 14 owners, but only four of them have torn down their buildings.
“Owners of the construction projects . . . don’t bother seeking further recourse. If you don’t tear them down, the authorities will take legal action,” Tip Seiha said.
Chamroeun said that following the demolition, the authorities and experts would assist the owners with designing new buildings, the technical work and the proper licences for a speedy reconstruction.
On August 27, at least 14 buildings in the province were ordered to be dismantled due to poor quality, while another 70 are currently undergoing technical examinations. These are among the 500 buildings that experts inspected following the fatal collapse in June which killed 28 and injured 26 people.

That building looked quite dangerous, probably a good move.
