[RANT Warning] .... yup... all caps. (Verification of construction permits)

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Construction laws in KH don't exist as concepts of reality amongst most Cambodians.

That escalated quickly...

Would you like to elaborate on your (relatively) short post, and let the community know why/how your ire has been piqued? Perhaps then, useful advice may be inbound?

EDIT: We all know that processes and laws are open to interpretation, so what exactly has happened to you, and how can the community help? I do believe that there are one or two construction guys "on the team", who may be able to offer expert advice.

We just went through the process of getting a construction permit and site opening license for an expansion of the factory I work at. There were a few delays on the former compared to the stated timeline and non on the latter. Everything went smoothly and no facilitation payments.

Luckily they were both done just before the Kep building collapse (but after the Sihanoukville one) as whenever anything like that happens everyone gets paralyzed by fear

city life vs. farm life exists across the world in the permit department..
People who live in the country in the USA are not going to fuck with permits in many cases...
They do the wiring..plumbing...concrete pad... construction of barns...roofing...etc.. themselves.
This is what I see here in Cambodia.
I often feel like Cambodia is USA 1920-40 in various areas...this permit issue is a good example.
Of course city projects are different.
Projects that are for public use or rent..etc ..
But, what good are permits if there are no inspections and shit materials are used?
Not worth the paper they are printed on.
