Lastest "let's copy Thailand" move: anthem at the cinema

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

I went to the cinema in Thailand prior to 'Father' dying and during the anthem there was a video of his accomplishments throughout his life.
After his death, the video changed to Father with his son as a boy and then a young man..making the transition to a new King.
Then, it changed to the new King ....
I told my Thai friend that when I was a boy in the late 1960s I would go to the theater at the local air base with my buddy whose father was a retired Air Force Colonel.
Prior to the film..We all stood up for the National Anthem...
So, to say this is some new thing is false.
I think someone who steals the creations of artists is the worst kind of thief.
I don't like what Hollywood is producing these days and I stopped watching the Academy awards.
That is simply because I support Trump and Hollywood hates him.
What is wrong with singing your National Anthem?
What is wrong with being a proud patriot?

whats the big deal?
Your a visitor in the country and should respect whatever customs, laws & regulations there are.

when in Rome, do as the Romans do.
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

I have never paid for any music or movie and will never. I also do not respect any "artist" making money on poor gullible people.
That's a bit weird... So you've never paid an artist for their labour? A graphic artist? Sound engineer? Composer? Nice concept, I should try that next time I visit a school, law firm or supermarket. Funny how people have double standards when it comes to paying for things. Believe it or not, not all movies and music are from "the man"..

when in Rome, do as the Romans do.
You missed my point: it's never been a "custom" here, it's copied from Thailand. More like "when in Gaul, do as in Rome".

Nothing, i'm sure standing up and singing the American anthem before these kind of movies is not awkward at all, is a great fun-starter for kids, and a hot tip for dating.
