Traveling in Times of Coronavirus

Do you have a Cambodian trip report you want to share? Post it here, and feel free to link to your blog if it's a travel blog for Cambodia, South East Asia, or anywhere really. You can ask and answer questions about travel advice in Cambodia or just share your pictures and videos with us. Most people who live in or visit Cambodia have also checked out nearby countries like Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines, and you can get to most of these countries by traveling overland, so put any travel plans, reviews or questions here. Discussions about dirt bike trails in here as well.

PHNOM PENH - MANILA - VANCOUVER ON 1st March.

I checked in at PP and was given 2 boarding cards, one for each leg. Airport at PP was not busy, but Manila was rammed, 1 hour to get through immigration upon arrival and a debilitating 1 hour 15 just to get through passport control in Manilla to leave.

I was given a form to fill in at the GATE to the flight to Vancouver asking for details including seat number (for tracing even where you sat on the plane, even though the airlines would know that) and there was a section that ask if I had been to China, South Korea, Thailand etc in the last 14 days. The answer was no, but nobody went through my passport to look for entry or exit stamps to check, so I could have lied.

The Philippine Airlines flight to Vancouver was completely full, I asked one of the cabin crew as to the capacity. I commented that it was strange given most airlines are cancelling flights. He said that most of their flights have been full "because you can still travel from the Philippines without have to quarantine on arrival". I thought about that. Is it possible that people from bad countries are getting themselves to Manila so they can arrive in North America from a 'clean' country instead of being locked up for 2 weeks, or having to take 2 weeks off work without pay?

Anyway, next stop Mexico and then Colombia. I can't help feeling that I got out at a good time and I am waiting for the day the world wakes up to the fact the Cambodia is wide open for a massive outbreak (with flights from China still arriving without any checks) and will not be able to contain it.

Trying to get out of Manila, 1 hour 20 standing in a f***ing queue (The snake queue was to get through the doors whereupon you chose a queue of about 60 deep per Immigration officer.

At the gate... hmmm lovely...

Talk about keeping bad company, The worst lounge I have ever been in and I only noticed the others they let in when I left.

AirAsia is now offering UNLIMITED flights for 1 year between 5 countries, Australia, Japan, Korea, China, and India, and it costs $118 USD. There are some catches, and it looks like it's only for Malaysians, or at least located in Malaysia. Some other catches:
  • The pass is only the base fare, and travelers are still expected to pay taxes, fees, and other add-ons
  • Eligible flights only include those that are over 4 hours in duration and have the carrier code D7 (Air Asia X) or XJ (Thai AirAsia X)
  • Excludes flights to Singapore, Denpasar (Bali), and Jeddah
  • Flights must be point-to-point (no layovers)
  • Pass holders are only allowed three “no-shows” before their pass is revoked
  • Reservations must be made at least 14 days before the flight
  • Pass holders are limited to two flights per day
And here was the departures board in Phnom Penh last month when we flew to Kuala Lumpur, with flights to China all cancelled:

And one relative who flew out here from California had their United Airlines connecting flights in and out of Hong Kong (from Malaysia) cancelled, but they just rerouted her, so no biggie.

The above all seems quite reasonable and is the same things my friends daughter was issued in Beijing.
She is NOT allowed outside her apt at all, food deliveries are arranged by phone

I only question this, "....If you have been in close contact with someone that has ......"
how would you know if they were not showing symptoms and later was diagnosed with it?

Even bed linen isn't to be washed unless you have to then all laundry equipment needs cleaning
Not sure how this works if you in a hotel. I'm sure the hotels will soon be refusing people in this category

Vietnam requires health declaration from all arrivals
By Le Nga March 6, 2020 | 12:36 pm GMT+7
Everyone arriving in Vietnam from overseas will need to fill out health declaration forms starting this Saturday.

Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam, head of the National Steering Committee on Covid-19 Prevention and Control, issued the order at a meeting Friday.

The arrivals can choose to file the declaration in paper or electronic form, via the Preventive Health Department website suckhoetoandan.vn/khaiyte. The declaration form is available in English, Chinese, South Korean, Italian and Cambodian.

The Ministry of Health also requires those with symptoms like cough, fever, shortness of breath, and fatigue to be examined and quarantined.

Vietnam already required those arriving from mainland China, South Korea, Iran, and Italy, the worst-hit countries, to be quarantined for at least 14 days.
