Re: Outbreak of Unidentified Coronavirus In China as New Year Approaches

Post by Stinkman »

Haven't read it, but apparently the book "The Eyes of Darkness" by author Dean Koontz from 1981 eerily foreshadowed some aspects of this Covid-19 virus outbreak, right down to the city of origin being Wuhan. Koontz named his virus Wuhan-400. I think in the novel the virus strikes first in the year 2020.
The fictional novel tells the story of a Chinese military lab that creates a new virus to potentially use as a biological weapon during wartime. The lab is ironically located in Wuhan, China and the made-up virus is called Wuhan-400.

Anyone have any idea of what the Chinese are spraying around in the streets etc to kill this virus or what product is used to sterilize items like handrails on escalators and items in public places and homes.

It all looks more and more like fighting wind. Wasting resources getting inadequate results from the efforts. Which eventually will be admitted, but not before global economy is set many years back. Common sense tells that ten times more people go unreported which puts mortality rate not so much above that of flu. So why kill economy and bring much more harm and deaths because of that. Then again, it’s a good opportunity to buy cheap assets from panicked sellers.

Another cruise ship outbreak suspected. After Japan, California...first the Diamond Princess, and now the Grand Princess. Princess Cruises are not handling the coronavirus outbreak very well.

Thousands stranded on cruise ship off California over virus fears

LOS ANGELES: Thousands were stranded on a cruise ship off the California coast on Wednesday over fears of the new coronavirus after passengers and crew members on board developed symptoms.

Officials delayed the return of the Grand Princess to San Francisco on Wednesday night from Hawaii in order to carry out testing on board for those potentially infected.

A 71-year-old man who had been aboard the same vessel during its previous voyage to Mexico died after contracting the COVID-19 illness, becoming the first fatal case in California, the operator Princess Cruises and California Governor Gavin Newsom said.

The ship's return from its current voyage was being delayed to allow "ample timing" for testing of "a number of passengers and crew members that have developed symptoms," Newsom told a press conference.

"So we're holding that ship, which (has) thousands of passengers as well, off the coast, and we'll be conducting those tests," he added.

Eleven passengers and 10 crew members were potentially infected with the virus, Newsom said.

Around 62 passengers who remained on board from the earlier Mexico voyage were restricted to their rooms for testing, the Princess Cruises company said in a statement to AFP.

It was not specified if they were among those displaying symptoms.

"In an abundance of caution, these guests and other potential close crew contacts have been asked to remain in their staterooms until screened by our onboard medical team," it said.

The ship held about 2,500 passengers, plus crew, said Newsom. According to the company's website, the vessel is manned by 1,150 crew.

The Grand Princess belongs to Princess Cruises, the same company which operated the coronavirus-stricken ship held off Japan last month on which more than 700 people on board tested positive.

Six people who were hospitalized after being taken off the Diamond Princess have since died.

Thailand cases up to 47 with 4 news ones
The new cases include a 29 year-old Italian man who arrived in Thailand on March 1 and was diagnosed with the virus at a hospital in Chonburi province on March 2.

The second case is a 42 year-old Thai male office worker who returned from Italy on March 2 and was diagnosed with the virus on March 3 in a Chonburi hospital.

The third is a 22 year-old Chinese male student who was screened with symptoms while in transit at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport while traveling from Iran to China.

The fourth case is a 20 year-old Thai male student who arrived from Iran on Feb. 27 and was diagnosed with the virus in the southern Nakhon Si Thammarat province on March 2.
How many on the same flights, (and/or transiting thailand) also had it and have yet shown symptoms or been tested?
