SLAVERY SMASHER: One former Mountie's crusade to end sex trafficking in Cambodia

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

This thread has gone ludicrously quiet, so we can only assume that we no longer have to suffer further slings and arrows.

Untrue and unfair comments about expats aside, I will take my hat off and applaud any individual who is involved in tackling sex slavery and trafficking of minors.

Being in that line of work would emotionally break most of us. So good on them and anyone else on the frontlines fighting against this evil.

I think we can safely assume that her knows what he’s talking.
he doesn't care what you think he only cares what donors believe or say they believe

This Ratanak has an annual report - https://www.ratanak.org/news/january-2020/ showing over $2 million spent, for a local NGO (i.e. not a Save the Children, Care international etc.) this is a phenomenal amount of money compared to others and with fairly low outcomes in terms of number of outcomes/beneficiaries.
what does a mountie earn?

i'm guessing less than his share of that $2 million.

I totally reject your proposition, Nath.
You can not do good work by telling lies to get million of dollars from deceived donors.

Apart from the immorality of operating this way, in itself - it ruins it for those organisations that are genuine.
This field, and the orphanage industry, are full of scammers. It has given everybody a bad name and does not advance the cause of helping kids one little bit.

The end does not justify the means. Never!
Especially in the aid/charity sector.

Hats off and applaud a lying, deceiving, out proud Christian stinking hypocrite?
'Sure?

Now, if foreign sex tourists are nabbed abusing children, it’s 15 years in a Cambodian slammer. No questions asked.
Obviously he has no clue what's actually happening so he has to make up lies like this. As far as I can recall most sentences are far shorter than that. "No questions asked"?" Nope, they would never ask a suspect any questions.... :?

Who's to blame though? The article writer, or the slightly narcissistic ex-cop who's clearly trying to collect funds? Or both?

He is a very qualified person. Brian McConaghy left his life as a forensic scientist. where he worked with the RCMP namely with the Vancouver Forensic Laboratory, as a firearm and tool-mark examination specialist. But now he would help men, women and children in Cambodia, mainly due to him visiting Cambodia from 1989, and by 2008 When he arrived back in Canada, he decided to change his policing, he would leave his position in the Mounties, due to him being in a bad place and sick of dead people, and now help Cambodia and the human trafficking he witnessed.

From the article -

Sex trafficking and sex tourism have been a blight on the Asian landscape for decades. Western men whose twisted desires involving the very young were drawn to the area like moths to a flame.Poverty, perversion and political chaos drove a bustling market for human flesh.

“It was little Asian kids in Cambodia … nothing prepared me for seeing children, seven, eight, nine … I had never seen or heard of anything like it,” McConaghy said of the tragically abused children.
“It was the beginning of the end of my police career.”
In Cambodia, hundreds of children were being bought and sold for sex to insatiable foreigners: Scandinavians, Germans, Brits, Canadians, Aussies and Americans.

I could understand the determination of anyone wanting to be part of stopping this kind of crime, has an expat myself like many here, we read only about such things, like we have done once again with this thread. Again apparently expats are blatantly blamed for the cause of this crime.

All! The article was wrote, and also falsely accusing people of something that is not true, and smearing someone's good repetition, Is it all lies to gain moneys. Brian McConaghy you are and have been a upholder of the law, and yourself a lawful person, if they are not your words. I ask how you could let this happen, to name people of crimes that they have never committed. I talk here of the innocent that have been named guilty be a upstanding person of the law and their organisation.
