UK students fined for sexist chant
Is it misogynistic?
“I wanna be a Cavendish ranger, living a life of sex and danger.
High flying, 69-ing.
These are the girls that I love best, many times I’ve sucked their breasts.
Fuck her standing, fuck her lying,
If she had wings I’d fuck her flying.
Now she’s dead, but not forgotten, dig her up and fuck her rotten.
You wish, you wish, you wish you were in Cavendish…”
Video of it

The group was filmed outside the Capital FM Arena on 28 September by a first year student, who did not want to be named.
The woman said she was "fed up" after hearing the misogynistic chants all week and so decided to film the behaviour.

Re: UK students fined for sexist chant
I guess I've indulged in what could be construed as the odd bit of sexist singing at football games so I'm guilty, a standard we used to sing at Scotland games was the Partick supporters input
I know a lassie, a Bonnie Bonnie lassie,
She's as sweet as the heather in the glen,
She's got legs like a spider, I'd love to f****** ride her
Mary from Maryhill
I thought in the context of where and amongst whom I t was being sung with the element of humour it was okay and a good laugh.
The case you quote relates to what looks like a mixed hall of residence, led by student representatives, the lyrics are pretty extreme and sung aggressively if you watch the video. Settling into the first weeks of college is hard for a lot of students so hearing this shit from nothing more than drunken yobbos every time they get pissed should be clamped down on in my humble opinion. There are rules in place apparently, so fair enough.
Can't they use their supposedly well educated brains to think up,something more humorous.

Yes sir, I can boogie, I can boogie, boogie, boogie all night long.

As an old school type of guy, I agree up to an extent, but nowadays women have their own " dick sucking" songs etc. Young women's chat is often x rated. You mentioned Maryhill. I live in Maryhill, and two women mugged/ punched/ killed a guy outside my local store to steal his beers.Cowshed Cowboy wrote:I guess I've indulged in what could be construed as the odd bit of sexist singing at football games so I'm guilty, a standard we used to sing at Scotland games was the Partick supporters input

I am all for treating women with the utmost respect. But I am also surrounded by women like that! I would doubt many female students would be offended by that song.

I agree with you many wouldn't, in fact it looks like in the clip some were joining in. There's no doubt the ladette style of crude drunken behaviour has grown in tandem with the loutish form of socialising that seems to typify a section of young Brits idea of a good time. We did have a pizza delivery boy mugged by a couple of girls for the pizzas on our campus when I was at college but luckily it wasn't mineUKJ wrote:

What was that line in Taggart - " Boss, there's a murder in Maryhill ". Taggart " It's murder in Maryhill every day "
Caveat - I always enjoyed my twice a season trip there, met some good guys.
