Cambodia News: On 7 February 2020, the wedding of a couple of gay Cambodian men was celebrated on social media. Although same-sex marriages are not legally recognized in Cambodia, many gay and lesbian couples want to have a ceremony of committment for their family and friends, and they are not shy to share their happy moment on social media.


The official view from Cambodian authorities is that because discrimination against LGBT persons is illegal, same sex marriages are "unnecessary", and the present situation of tolerance and denial is acceptable. Cambodian society is basically conservative, and different sexual orientations to the norm are not always well accepted by the older generations. However, Cambodians are also tolerant and they love weddings and romance, so the younger generations post extremely positive and encouraging comments on same-sex weddings on their social media pages.
