Former Aust PM Gough Whitlam Dies

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

RIP. Never even heard his name before though.

Everyone raise your drinks in a toast to Gough, and say out loud, "Fu' Gough".

At least those guys had some character. Look at the ones since Howard - Rudd, Gillard and Abbott. I'm glad I live here most of the time.

Regardless of party, Australia needs another Howard to pull it out of the sewer, and then another Hawke to spend the war chest on infrastructure.

I'm afraid that might be right. I've only spent 8 weeks there in the last 3.5 years so I've really lost touch now. The face of the country has changed so much since I was a kid but so much in the last 10 years, I've kinda given up on it now.

Interesting read here:

Whitlam and Australia's forgotten coup
By John Pilger

John Pilger marks the death of former Australian prime minister Gough Whitlam with the one story missing from the 'tributes' to a man whose extraordinary political demise is one of America's dirtiest secrets.
