Re: Outbreak of Unidentified Coronavirus In China as New Year Approaches
Surely trade in wild animals is banned anyway?Kammekor wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2020 8:39 am dealing... dealing....
Cambodia
One case confirmed.
Concerns as 3,000 Chinese from Wuhan visited Sihanoukville and Siem Reap during the Lunar New Year.
Cambodia has suspended all trade in wild animals.
Cambodia has confirmed its first case, an elderly Chinese man on New Year vacation with his family.
I can confirm trade in wild animals is still alive and kicking in the KoW.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

Not banned everywhere, in Mongla in northern Burma on the Chinese border, one of the attractions for the Chinese, (foreigners are not allowed in) is the animal trade, ( plus casinos and working girls)John Bingham wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2020 1:00 pmSurely trade in wild animals is banned anyway?Kammekor wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2020 8:39 am dealing... dealing....

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

I think it's plausible. Price the test so high that most wouldn't want to take it unless they were dying. After watching the HE video about this virus, HE says Cambodia cannot afford to turn away Chinese people. The government doesn't want another sick person on the radar.chiaojiang wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2020 10:48 amI doubt that they will even know there are cases.handonheart wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2020 12:48 am Interesting to see how Cambodia deals with all the potential cases after LNY, how (un)robust is the health system?
One tuktuk driver told me the hospitals charge people $400 for detection of the virus, hence no one takes the test.
The old lady laughing at the drone is great. It makes me smile every time I watch it.
Still here, in country...

Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

I can guarantee you that the bushmeat market is thriving in Ban Lung and Sen Monorom.

I know there is still a thriving trade in wildlife. My comment regarded the government statement that trade " has been suspended". Considering it's already banned that makes little sense.

Re: Outbreak of Unidentified Coronavirus In China as New Year Approaches
China’s death toll from a new virus increased to 304 on Sunday amid warnings from the World Health Organization that other countries need to be prepared in the event the disease spreads among their populations. Figures from the National Health Commission showed an increase of 45 in the death toll and 2,590 in the number of cases for a total of 14,380, well above the number of those infected in the 2002-03 outbreak of SARS, or severe acute respiratory syndrome, which broke out in southern China before spreading worldwide.
The number of new cases today equals the total number of cases for the first three weeks the disease was known. Ah, the magic of compound interest

In the top right corner of this link >>> https://gisanddata.maps.arcgis.com/apps ... 7b48e9ecf6
click on the 3 horizontal lines. Then follow the link 'Modelling 2019-nCoV'. It takes you to this:
Update January 31: Modeling the Spreading Risk of 2019-nCoV
We believe the actual number of 2019-nCoV cases in mainland China are likely much higher than that reported to date. Specifically, we estimate there to be around 58,000 cumulative cases of 2019-nCoV in mainland China by the end of January (as of January 31, the reported cases is close to 12,000).
Furthermore, based on this analysis, we believe the outbreak began in November, and there were already hundreds of human cases of 2019-nCoV in Wuhan in early December. The estimated verses confirmed cases during January are presented in Figure 1.
Figure 1. Estimated vs. Reported Cases of 2019-nCoV cases globally.
In addition to inferring the current outbreak size, the model provides the expected number of (the 100) imported cases arriving at each airport globally (based on final travel destinations of travelers). By aggregating this over all airports in a country/region we can estimate the total number of imported cases in each country/region. The country level importation risk is illustrated in the map in Figure 2, with the darker shades equating to higher importation risk, and the red outline indicating the set of countries reporting cases as of January 31.
Figure 2. Heatmap of Countries/regions with highest risk of imported 2019-nCoV cases, January 31

Re: Outbreak of Unidentified Coronavirus In China as New Year Approaches
Only one case in Cambodia to date?
I call bullsh1t on this.
Unrestricted flights from China still and Wuhan in particular at the start.
Rumour is that testing costs $400, since there is no treatment, what is the point in being diagnosed at the equivalent cost of over 3 months wages for most people?
The big man is in denial, worried about losing the Chinese tourism $$$$, and is downplaying the virus.
IMHO, this will break out real bad within 8 weeks in Cambodia.
