Brazilian football great to visit Cambodia next week

Brazilian football legend Roberto Carlos will be in Cambodia next week for a series of football-related activities.

Local media reports said Carlos will be in Phnom Penh on Feb 5 for the opening of the Cambodia branch of the Brazilian International School of Football (BIFA).

Founded by Brazilian footballer Ricardo Alves Fernandes, BIFA is geared towards developing young people into professional football players under the guidance of qualified international coaches. BIFA Cambodia is patterned after BIFA Vietnam, which Fernandes opened in Ho Chi Minh city four years ago.

Fernandes will launch BIFA Cambodia in partnership with Riellionaire Group, a Cambodia-based investment and development company.

During a media briefing last week at the Singapore Cambodia International Academy, Fernandes said they are happy to partner with Riellionaire Group to develop football in Cambodia. Fernandes was joined during the briefing by Kuy Panchhey, CEO of Riellionaire Group, DW Daniel, general director of Riellionaire Group and other sports dignitaries.

Carlos, according to a post on the official Facebook page of energy drink Boostrong, will also meet fans to talk about his football experience at the Olympic Stadium starting at 2pm on the same day. Boostrong is among the sponsors of the football star’s visit.

An exclusive meet-and-greet event will later be held in the evening at Amigos Brazilian Steakhouse.
