Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. Capital Bus Crash Injures 10 People in Battambang

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

Cambodia News (Battambang): On January 27, 2020, a Capital bus crashed and fell into a canal on national road 5, Battambang.

Before the incident, the bus was driven in the direction of Battambang to Phnom Penh, when suddenly, for some unknown reason, the bus drove off the road and into the canal.
Ten people were injured in the accident. The victims, all Cambodians, were identified as Lay Chhoeum, a 65-year-old man, Hor Sim, a 51-year-old woman, Porn Sophy, a 58-year-old woman, Ros Bopha, a 26-year-old woman, Nhem Samnang, a 38-year-old man, Ouk Saloeun, a 67-year-old woman, Som Sophy, a 65-year-old man, Mel Sotheary, a 59-year-old man, Hoy Sokheng, a 9-year-old boy, and Ly Heang, a 42-year-old woman.

The police sent the victims to the provincial hospital and took the bus to keep at the police station, waiting to sort the problem out later. The bus driver ran away from the accident scene, but presumably he is a Capital bus employee, so he should not be too hard to find.

Many people do not wear seat belts, and yet they are wearing masks to protect against a virus....

In my experience, there aren't any seat belts in the big buses. Or at least in the buses that cater for locals. But maybe they have such things in some of the tourist buses ? VIP minivans have seat belts sometimes.

I know I shouldn't laugh but the fact the bus driver legs it every bloody time gives me a slight chuckle
