Anyone have a rough idea how much it would cost to run air conditioning each month in a studio apartment? Roughly.

Probably about 10 hours per day.

What does your lease say about how much you pay per kWh? I've heard of people charging rates from 720 riel per kWh to 2000 riel per kWh

It is going to depend a lot on environmental factors. for example a north facing apartment will not get as hot as a south facing one so you will not need aircon so much. Equally one under the roof will usually be a lot hotter. North facing 3rd floor 30m2 aprtment i do not need aircon much. usually just 2 or 3 hours before bed, otherwise i use the fan. My electric is about $40 a month. Alos you will use 50% less if the airon is a modern inverter unit. And old badly maintained unit will use a lot more juice. Common fault here is the units are not serviced and low on gas (costs around %25 to regas). Thid means the fan and compressor have to work a lot harder

But have you got a room in a house or an apartment in a purpose built building? I was paying 1000 a kw but thst included public area lighting and lift. Soem apartment blocks charge for that seperately, and you dont have them in private rentals usually

The average reverse cycle air conditioner costs around $0.25 – $0.35 per hour to run for cooling purposes, depending on the size of the room.

A medium sized room of 36sqm would cost $0.36 – $0.70 per hour to run.

In large areas (50sqm), it will cost between $0.70 and $0.95 per hour.

It will depend on the air conditioner you are using and the settings and cost of electricity.

I use a new inverter, set on 40% power and about 24 degrees. My studio is about 35sqm. I pay 800 riel per kw/h.

It uses 8 kw hours per 24 hours. When it is hot outside I run it 24/7. so 6400 reil per day for me.

But it all depends what temp you have it set at. For every degree lower your set it, it uses 10% more power (or so they say).

I'm a skinny prick so I use a fan mostly and when I turn on the AC between 2pm and 7am) it's set to 28C. Power bill comes in at just over 200kWh/month - around $40. At that setting it's mostly just operating in fan mode during the night.

That is a bargain. 40 bucks for cool balls all afternoon and evening.
