Giant Ibis Bus Crashes into Siem Reap Canal

Cambodia News (Siem Reap): On January 21, 2020, at around midnight, a tourist bus belonging to Giant Ibis company drove into a canal on national road 6, Bakong district, Siem Reap. There were 27 foreign passengers, including 18 women.
The accident was apparently caused by a brake failure which made the bus hit a sign and crash into the canal. Fortunately, there was nobody injured.

The police went to the scene and help to transfer all the passengers on to another bus to continue their trip. The bus driver was sent to the police station for questioning.

When they say 'brake failure', do they mean the brakes failed or the driver failed to brake (due to being on the phone / taking a sip from his whisky flask / being asleep etc) ??

Good to see nobody was injured.

I think brake fade is a far more likely scenario in many of these cases of “brake failure”. Though the level of servicing these vehicles receive is almost certainly non existent and things only get fixed when they fail.... so no preventative maintenance.

Do these vehicles have any type of brake retarders fitted as standard anyway!

Doesn't look like a crash to me, more like he couldn't find a place to park.
Or maybe he's a Kem supporter and just wanted to take out that cpp sign.
Still, no one injured and at least it wasn't a precious beer truck.

Has giant ibis been taken over, or are they planning to take over Vireak?

The amount of routes / busses of Giant Ibis is relatively low, but they have been in the news quite a lot lately. Some people used to call them one of the safest...

The retard responsible for the brake system is usually located in the driver's seat.
