I need a new phone
I need a new phone
I have a Samsung galaxy 6. The fingerprint sensor has failed (again) and the only replacements will be old second hand ones.
I was thinking about a second hand Galaxy S8. Probably about $250.
I use my phone for WhatsApp messaging, online banking, phoning people (old fashioned, I know). I take a few pictures but delete most of them as they clog up the memory. Rarely use the video function. Never play games on it. Google maps a lot and web access for news sites etc. That's about it
Any suggestions?

Re: I need a new phone
I would purchase the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 with 6GB ram with 64GB storage (can expand storage with SDcard also).
I have had several Xiaomi phones they are an excellant bargain this one has a 4 lens 48MP rear camera along with all the other bells and whistles of the best phones.
Here are the specs: https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_redmi_note_8-9814.php
Here is a link with price (tho I would never buy from amazon as shipping is too expensive ): https://www.amazon.com/Xiaomi-Redmi-Fac ... Y6HVW?th=1

Re: I need a new phone
I wouldn’t use anything but iPhone for online banking. Every time a new phone virus stealing from banking apps is reported it’s always an Android virus, i don’t remember reading about a virus targeting iOS banking apps.
In many other ways iPhones suck, i know.

The biggest threat from viruses on Android comes from downloading and installing apps from third-parties. If you stick to getting all your apps from the Google Play store, you're generally as safe as any iPhone user.hunter8 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2020 3:07 pmI wouldn’t use anything but iPhone for online banking. There have been reports of malicious apps in the Google Play store too.xandreu wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2020 3:22 pmThe biggest threat from viruses on Android comes from downloading and installing apps from third-parties. iPhone security model is built such that one app does not have access to another app’s data, unlike on Android phones.

I have an Oppo Reno 2, outstanding phone and 48mp camera, 256 GB onboard storage, sound quality best I've heard
Around $500 new, iirc.

Re: I need a new phone
I switched to Samsung when I ditched my iPhone 4 and wouldn't go back to Apple. Samsung has it's own layer of security on top of Android called Knox. Seems to have done the job for me for the past 7 or 8 years.hunter8 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2020 3:25 pmThere have been reports of malicious apps in the Google Play store too.xandreu wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2020 3:22 pmThe biggest threat from viruses on Android comes from downloading and installing apps from third-parties.
