Riverside over-run by pigeons

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. Riverside over-run by pigeons

Post by Duncan »

While everyone is worried about the new coronavirus spreading, take a walk along riverside,,, and other areas ,,, and ask yourself if pigeons are a threat to your health. Remembering that children's noses and mouths are closer to the ground than adults and their lungs may be more susceptible to absorbing whatever they inhale

Quote ] For some people, pigeons serve as entertainment that can be bought with a few stale crusts of bread. For others, pigeons are nothing more than “rats with wings” that carry pathogens that spread harmful diseases. The question is, do pigeons spread diseases or is that just an urban myth?

Yes Dunk, definitely.
-in fact, science indicates they are the second most foul species on the riverside.

The government banned feeding the pigeons a few years ago. It was about as effective as the bans on illegal logging, illegal sand dredging, illegal construction, illegal casinos.

I like birds but, as far as I am concerned, poison the lot. Not only can these rats on wings spread diseases, their droppings cause considerable damage to buildings.

If only history could repeat itself and the pigeon in question befall the same fate as the once ubiquitous carrier pigeon.

It should be easy..

The Passenger Pigeon
The most populous bird species on the planet, ever.
3-5 billion to Zero in 50 years.
Wow

This is the best soft-science story i have read for a while.
Describes the complexities of the bird's decline really well.
And at the same time it explains important issues like genetic diversity, threshold populations, triggers to spirals, crucial connections between seemingly seperate factors. and more

warning, only for hard core nature students - and maybe those who want to pick up the contract on our local pest pigeons

Looks like something has happened about the birds on riverside. They have picked on the low hanging fruit first by banning those selling sparrows in the cages. I watched as this girl put her birds down, walked 20 m to pick up her kid,,, and a policeman swooped in on his bike and took the caged birds away.
