Man Shoots Medical Student Girlfriend to Death in Phnom Penh

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Which is it?
Correction... So sorry Mr Brody

I finally spoke to the Colonel at Brigade 70..

The man was a captain. He joined in 2015. He rarely performed his duties and was lazy. His family gained him his position, but he has brought disgrace on his uniform, the unit and his family.

We wish very much to find this person, as he is no longer entitled to be classed as a man.

No Mish, you are perfect. Never met a better man.
In fact - you are my role model. for everything.
and so generous to your friends

Now, about borrowing your gun,
as i told you before, it's just for a fun night shooting out street lights in the quiet suburban part of town ..

Boom - pop
Boom - pop
You too Stern.. It's a pleasure jousting.

Don't borrow my arms. Buy your own - shiny, new, smells nicely of oil. Your best friend in difficult situations, never says no (unless you cheapskate with the hookers and skanks of the pistol world) and is the ultimate deterrent against evil. :thumb:

In this sad case, the perp was armed, luckily he dropped his firearm at the scene, however the boys cannot make the assumption that he is now unarmed, so they must take precautions as must you.

He is still at large and a danger to everyone.

I won't joke anymore on this one Mish, But yeah, looking forward to that wild wild night out.
(although we both both go unarmed. lol- who knows what's gonna happen..)

What's the feeling on this guy -
Go away quietly, sob, and then shoot himself?
Quietly sent somewhere safe by the family?
Desperado?

Any previous history of being unstable?
Or of being a first rate prick?
Hardman?
Nice guy, but blew a fuse?

Powerful family?
Military or political family?
Close to powerful patron?

You probably can't answer most of this, Mish
or maybe can't talk too much.
but that's the kind of stuff that really interests me.

Poor girl.
Engaged,
to a rising young general
Her own little startup
Probably, a stable family and a phone full of friends
A princesses perfect dream (and nearly all girls this age want that).
..ended in 5 seconds of horror, then death.

RIP, sweet young lady
don't fear, they have princesses in the afterworld too
and many good men.

Go out unarmed?? No sir.. My friends are armed for a reason. On the permit carried at all times are the well proscribed and narrow circumstances where their use is justified. We do not create those circumstances. It is highly unlikely those circumstances will arise. But chance sometimes deals her fate.

About the guy. He went through staff college and joined the unit in 2015. His work attendance record was poor and his duties neglected, only collected his salary. He was not a professional soldier in attitude unlike most of my friends. His family are fairly well to do, so it was impossible to remove him, just no promotion. The Brigade orders are clear, he is disowned and anyone giving sanctuary will be charged. His weapon was removed from the base without authorization. He is in hiding, no-one knows where at the moment. No-one is sure if he has another weapon. The fact that he left his service pistol at the scene shows his state of mind. He is classed as unstable and unpredictable. Likely to be suicidal.

About the lady. It's common news now that she was a good lady with a bright future, studying medicine and of great benefit to Cambodia. Everyone is saddened at the loss.

The Brigade Colonel is happy that CEO has posted pictures of the guy and expats are on the lookout for this sack of shit. :thumb:

The perp posted on Facebook to the parents at the funeral some depressing moany shite.

The locals are telling him to hurry up and kill himself.

The actual term used frequently to describe him is 'dog'

I have not been in the KOW for that long (probably a bit more then 3 years) but from what I have read previously in CEO then there is every possibility that this scum could get his family to pay "compensation" and at the very least get a reduced sentence if any? Possibly buy the best available legal team and get out of it?
Stern, Mish and some of the other longer term expats might be able to answer that.
This girl had a life ahead of her. This girl had hopes and she had dreams for her future.
Now her family has lost a daughter, a sister, a niece, a grandaughter.
I personally hopes that he doesn't off himself but gets to spend his life without parole in prison.
I am not knocking the system here so much as I am well aware that this as happened in my own country where a "legal technicality" or a very well paid defence team will get a case acquitted or a minimum sentence.
But I would like to know what others think.

This guy is currently the number one hated person in Cambodia.

As previous posters and his facebook replies to his last drivelling post have said he may do the right thing and top himself.

No amount of cash can buy your way out of murder.

Tong Sarath is a testament to that.
