I meant it is of little use outside this country. Not so worth the effort like English or French or Spanish and God help us Chinese....
Latin & Greek are good for English root words.

Thank you for all your helpful replies except the 'don't come here' one. I have read reports about the theft problem which is alarming. Guess I'll just have to see when we come visit and get a proper feel for it all.

It's not really alarming, it's usually non-violent. Someone sits in a tuk tuk at a stoplight, they're coming from the airport, they're jet lagged and updating their Facebook or trying to find a place to eat, a moto pulls alongside and grabs the phone or a bag.
Where I lived in the states the same thing happened ( minus the tuk tuk of course). It happens everywhere.
