Cambodia News(Phnom Penh): On January 16, 2020, at 10 am, a 55-year-old French man, PATRICK JEAN MARIE MERCIER, went to the Investigation and Procedure Office at the Immigration Department in Phnom Penh, asking their help to send him back to France.

The French man has visited Cambodia many times, and the last time he entered Cambodia was in 2010 through the Poipet border. He used to be a French and Khmer teacher, but is now unemployed. His visa extension has expired, (date unknown), but he doesn't have the money to renew it.

Finally, the Frenchman decided to go to the Cambodian immigration authorities to ask them to send him home.

It’s hard to win an argument with a smart person, but it’s damn near impossible to win an argument with a stupid person.

Patrick is a well-known character and has been in Cambodia for a very long time, I think since somewhere in the nineties. I'm quite surprised he went to Immigration to get back to France. I always thought he had quite a few acquaintances/friends here and not one of them was able/willing to fund his flight to Paris? Hm, strange.

Seeing the smile on his face in the pictures, I'm afraid he might not be aware of what the immigration holding cells are like.

I always thought that he had obtained Khmer citizenship.

Good luck Patrick!

Mercier, who acted as a translator for the documentary, claims that Laine also filmed him and falsely depicted him as frequenting prostitutes.

Indeed, this guy has been around for ages. I think he's always had money issues and was just scraping by. He had many friends, but even years ago I remember him bumming the odd free meal at a few well-known french restaurants. I think a few owners slowly got tired of it. He's a pleasant guy though and I always thought he was one of those interesting characters, despite not knowing him personally. Hopefully he falls back on his feet quickly. Better this than ending up on the streets like many...

Looks like his defamation case went nowhere then.

At least he is smiling.

Good luck back home.

A video shot a couple years ago in which he was acting as a tuk-tuk driver
I bumped into him once or twice. Interesting character. Impressive knowledge in contemporary literature.
