Sihanoukville officials yesterday began dismantling 62 stalls along O’tres beach following warnings to vendors to remove them after an eviction notice was issued on December 4.

Mr Phearon said the authorities want to clean up beaches to provide a pleasant environment for the public and tourists.

On Sunday, Mr Phearon said the authorities had dismantled 126 stalls along O’chhoeuteal beach and there was no resistance from the vendors there.

“The vendors at that beach agreed to move out, but those at O’tres beach have not done so,” he said.

Samon Tha, a vendor at O’tres beach, yesterday said the vendors had refused to move out because their business supports their daily lives.

“Our business along O’tres beach is our rice pot,” she said. “We wanted the authorities to allow us to run our stalls at the same place.”

Those stalls look so old and cheaply made,,, cant wait to see the new Chinese built 20 story concrete hotels that replace them.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

It certainly has been a long time coming, but it's been on the cards since they came within a hair's breadth of it in 2016. Big money to be made, factories to staff.

This is almost an annual ritual !
During the past 14 years this happened several times already. Squatters got notice, didn't move out even after a long time. Than Police came with Watertrucks and AK47, shots were fired in the air and the Squatters that had actually already built some nice homes there set their own homes on fire so the Police wouldn't get the valuable wood. Will post some pics if i can find them again.

Always the bait for the Human Rights Orgs. because pictures of people that get evicted are always a good source of fundraising income.

This was a year ago. I was on Otres a few months ago and there were still loads of bricks and cement and other debris left in the sand from these demolitions.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

It seems they won’t rest until all traces of Cambodians are eradicated from Sihanoukville. The population, no longer required, are bought or in the main priced out of their homes and their businesses ruined because their customer base has been displaced, it’s basically (non violent) ethnic cleansing. Sihanoukville is a Chinese colony now, run by and for Chinese, visitors in coming years will be hard pushed to believe they are in Cambodia (unless you’re a Chinese gambler you’d need to be out of your mind to visit anyway)
