Here he is on youtube. His story doesn't make so much sense to me though. Seems that he has money but can't access it now and that he needs to go back to his country to sort the problem. Surely he could get a new card sent out to him.

It could be that without his phone and bank card he lacks the resources needed to find a solution for his problem.

Is it normal to be walking around with $600 in cash on you? It's not for me, unless I was on my way to a specific place to pay for something that cost $600, in which case, how unlucky would you have to be to be robbed on one of the rare occasions you were walking around with $600 in your wallet?

**edit** probably should have watched the video before commenting - he says he took the money out to pay his rent.

Difficult to know why there are so many retired Swedish people who are begging in Cambodia when that country has a fantastic social security system for all citizens. I can only guess it's because alcohol is cheaper here. Sad really.

There is no such thing. Swedish banks charge $50 to send a new Visa card with DHL. You can also phone them up and send money via Western Union with secret question if necessary, no passport required. Swedish citizens do this quite often when abroad because there is a Swedish law restricting ATM withdrawals to $1500 per week.

Identity verification via the phone is very simple to do for the account holder. He would know his own transactions and that is enough to verify himself. Every Swedish bank has a 24 hour accessible international phone number that handles everything he would need. It’s the same number you would call to block a lost credit card for example.

In plain English he is full of shit and deserves a beating.
