33-41%?! That sounds a bit high... This thread has me wanting to get one. I've only had like two or three happy pizzas since I've been in Cambodia. They just make me sleepy as hell.

My recollections are that the kan cha did not become illegal until it was made so under the UNTAC penal code. A lot of what was in that UNTAC law rolled over into the new state law code following the election in 1993. You used to be able to buy rolled cigarettes or just heads at Toul Tumpung Market. The old crone selling would roll them on a rolling machine as individuals, or she used to have little plastic packets of 10 or so spliffs. I once asked her how much to buy her entire stash, which probably would have nearly filled a bushel size apple box. She was perplexed at the question, why would I buy the lot? After some thought... 5 bucks. I remember that it was not a "cool" thing with young folks that I worked with, because they saw it as a substance associated with their parents and grandparents generations, who also used it in cooking, especially in rural areas. So it was never such a big deal. Until UNTAC.

i have run across quite a few people smoking it around the provinces though. it is an amazing ice breaker if you partake. they are shocked that you know, good vibes follow always even with old grannies.
