It all depends on the circles you move in. The Daun Penh neighborhood is full of desperadoes. 172, 136, 104 an 51 are all packed with creepy fuck-ups who think they are living the Phnom Penh life. Most people I know live far from that area. Some of us might come into the Riverside the odd time to hit whatever restaurant or bar but generally stay away from that area. It's funny when people talk about bubbles when the only experience they have is living in one of the most obvious ones.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

Huh? As my Psychology teacher explained to me years and years ago: "That's telling A LOT about YOU!"Sweet Lemon wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2020 11:07 pm I disagree. Guys who have close relationships with their moneyed families generally don't move to Cambodia. Many move to Cambodia because they are struggling in the West and aren't close with their families, and they stay in Cambodia because they calculate that it will be better than being homeless back in the West.

I live very close to 172 and visit regularly.John Bingham wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2020 12:06 am It all depends on the circles you move in. The Daun Penh neighborhood is full of desperadoes. 172, 136, 104 an 51 are all packed with creepy fuck-ups
I see a few creeps here and there, but 'packed' is an exaggeration.
Maybe you should visit it a few times to get out of your bubble, which you think is NOT a bubble...
Just saying.

Maybe I've been around that area for many years and am in and out of it constantly. but I realize that there's a much larger city outside of it? I find it annoying that some people think that it's the only part of the city and are completely unaware of the larger picture. It has the greatest concentration of fuck-ups in the whole country and it disappoints me that so many people judge the whole country on the that shitty area.

172 is a bubble and not a fluffy one - I have an inkling that most foreign deaths occur on that street - but I have many friends who like to stay there against my views but what do I know as I used to live above 69 Bar on 136. !72 has a feeling of Hotel Kalifornia to me and I will only go there to watch some band at Sundance but it sporns the most evil tuktuk and drug dealers I have seen having lived in PP for nearly 6 years.John Bingham wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2020 12:49 amMaybe I've been around that area for many years and am in and out of it constantly. but I realize that there's a much larger city outside of it? Street 172 is packed with drug addicts, degenerates but also has a high number of functional alcoholics. It was always a step up from GSM at least.
The closest you should go to 172 is Lonestar. Thankfully the degenerates don't make it up the street.

And sorry I didn't say this first --- but RIP Jack
I knew him quite well before his slide and, apart from his poor taste in female company, had some great repartee with him at Nicks. A well educated and erudite man who sadly descended down a rabbit hole without an exit.
He had some bad experiences in Oz that did not help his mental state and the last few times I saw him his future was always going to be short.
Vale Jack - relax now and forget your troubles

Plenty of degenerates in Lonestar - although plenty is stretching it due to the number of clientele but many fit the description.
Oddly enuf many of the GSM ppl eat at Blue Dolphin every night

It is more of a backpacker street but the number of deaths there is disturbing

Never experienced that at Lonestar, I went in as more of an occasional weekend afternoon customer and used to be in the fantasy football league they ran. Maybe I missed it due to my schedule.
Separately, they really could use some local options for people that may want help with drug problems. Both for Khmer and foreigners, I am not aware of any suitable rehabs or treatment centers. Surprised there is not an NGO out there as there are so many?
