Expats needing a helping hand

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

I think it's a very sweet idea. Though I admit I am a bit cynical myself I have helped people repeatedly in the past only for them to continue to make the same mistakes again, again and again... Or told lies and my kindness is taken advantage of. It's hard to tell sometimes who really needs help and what they really need. At the same time, I want to believe in the good of people so IDK if you can figure out a good vetting process and have ideas on how we can implement a better system to help out others I would be willing to listen. Though I dont recommend handing out money thats not usually the root of the issue.

PIEMAN -

You seem like the poster child of how such a fund or helping hand for expats could be (easily) abused. You shit on your family and choose to starve on arrival in Vietnam. The other example you point out (on another thread) is the poor Belgian guy (RIP) who is homeless on meth but too proud to go back to his country and get help. I can easily envision a meth addict using such funds or handouts to buy more meth rather than get help.

There is in fact a fund for unforeseen accidents in life. It’s called insurance. Make it mandatory for all expats living in the KOW, with especially higher premiums for those living on the edge. Responsible expats probably already have this.

Then PIEMAN your wish will come true. No more expats living rough. No more expats needing go fund me pages. Actually, how are you able to support your wife, future kids and grandkids living the way you do?

Must try to stay positive. Must try to see the good in all.

NKOTB, why don't you get informed about the details of Pieman's arrival in Vietnam before flaming him? Judging without the correct knowledge usually isn't a great idea.

Mandatory insurance for all expats?
Especially high premiums for fuck ups?
That is some funny shit.
So, I take out insurance for when I am broke and lost my job?
I make a claim and say..I am broke...I cash in my policy?
I am a meth addict or heroin fiend and I drink a bit.
I pay a higher premium than some person who just came to KOW to help people.
I find myself low on dope...Can I make a claim to buy some dope?
Or, do I have to be living in the gutter pissing myself?
I suspect, by then, I might of missed a few premiums and my claim denied.
What about gamblers?
Do they get a special rate for hitting the casinos?
Do people who have no family to shit upon get a different rate?
The USA spends billions on illegals every month.
The embassy should have a US citizen hot line that sends a fucking limo to your ice den or shit pile to pick you up and clean you up and send you home Business class.
I try to keep money in a US account, Cambodian account, cash on hand to get the fuck out of dodge and gold to cram up my man safe if the end of the World comes.
But, I am lucky. I have a few assets.
I worry more about what my wife is going to do when I am dust.
What is the premium for being a fucking douchebag?
