Man Confesses to Battambang Woman's Murder

Battambang, Cambodia News: A man was arrested on December 31, 2019, for questioning over the murder of a woman found naked in a rice field behind the market in Chamkar Samrong 2 village, Battambang province.

The suspect, Sorn Damo (alias Adam), a 33-year-old male, lives in Rokar village, Roka commune, Battambang province, and he is the brother-in-law of the victim, 37-year-old Hang Horn. On January 1, 2020, after prolonged police questioning, the suspect confessed to authorities that he killed the woman because they were in a relationship and he was afraid his wife would find out.

The suspect's case is currently being drafted by the Criminal Investigation Force (ICC), in preparation for the trial.

Motive for a murder:

“The suspect is the victim’s brother-in-law. He confessed that before the incident, the two of them [suspect and victim] were in a secret love relationship.

“Fearing his wife would learn about the illicit affair and demand the victim’s property as compensation, and to avoid the subsequent scandal, he decided that it would be easier to just kill her,” Vanny said.
