Prayut losing his grip!

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

I was talking about Thai people relying on tourism.
Hong Kong is an island...its students want jobs.
The Brits made a deal when they turned it over.
When I said relative peace I was comparing Thailand to Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia where millions died..
Yes, there have been protests..bombings..
Just like in the USA every city run by obama's party has incredible crime rates that are horrendous; but, pale in comparison just across the border in Northern Mexico.
Thailand has not had. 50 million Thais killed by the government like china.
Thailand did not lose millions to starvation and the Khmer Rouge.
Thailand did not have a war in the last 70 years to oust the French and then make it unfeasible for the USA to remain.
Hong Kong is unique and it has opened the eyes of the World.
The difference with Hong Kong is the World is watching..The chinese on the mainland are NOT seeing what the West is seeing.
The protests in Iran are not getting out. Iran turned off the internet. They are slaughtering their young who want a better life.
The media is focused on some non-protesters in Iraq who are actually iranian agents...Meanwhile, there are more Iraqis protesting for real that are not even being shown.
Obviously, the economy drives protests around the World.
Most social protests last a short time.
Economic protests come and grow and gain momentum. They often get results.
I saw a lot of them in Argentina. All economic.
It unites people. If free elections are held..change comes.
In Hong Kong the young began them and older people joined in.
It cannot be allowed on the mainland.

then instead of saying Thailand has enjoyed peace say Thailand was not bombed every 8 minutes like Laos was or the victim of a secret American war like Cambodia was. Once you start with the antiObama stuff what you really want to say is tRump isn t as bad as Hitler so we should all be happy. Thailand's political history since 1932 has been one of oppression by the wealthy elites with military backing, it has been no picnic ask any educated Thai.

Thai media all seem to be obeying the order from the palace not to report on the large fire at the 11th Infantry Regiment. No reports online on any Thai news sites.Image

a good commentary on Andrews book, A Kingdom in Crisis, https://www.newmandala.org/book-review/ ... t-history/
and its on torrent,, https://libgen.is/book/index.php?md5=2A ... F557A23547
his twitter account, https://twitter.com/zenjournalist

PS: he was WAY OFF Base thou when he wrote;
Part III of the book addresses “the secrets of the Thai succession” (p 105). MacGregor Marshall starts this section by categorically rejecting the conventional wisdom that Crown Prince Vajiralongkorn will take the throne following the passing of his father. He confidently declares that predictions of an orderly succession “are completely untrue”
He suggests that the “ruling class had long been confident that when the time came they would be able to keep Vajiralongkorn off the throne”

However, A Kingdom in Crisis presents no compelling evidence to back them up. In most cases no sources are cited.
yea, got that right, LOL

so all in all, he has his opinion and others have theirs. :beer3:
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

The Communist Party of Thailand's insurgency and the actions against it went largely unreported. There was also the Farmers Federation of Thailand revolt which resulted in many massacres and assassinations.
...communist suspects arrested by soldiers were normally shot by the roadside. The "red oil drum" technique was later introduced to eliminate any possible evidence. Suspects were clubbed to a point of semi-consciousness before being dumped in gasoline-filled, used oil drums and burnt alive.

The 200-litre red drums had an iron grille divider; there was a fire below, and the suspect above.

Even after the end of military rule in the wake of the October 1973 Thai popular uprising, the killings were never seriously investigated and none of the perpetrators was punished.
