Elderly disabled homeless man getting assistance back to England from Pattaya Law Enforcement

Pattaya- Pattaya Law Enforcement reported on their social media feeds today that an elderly, homeless English man who is in a wheelchair is getting help from them to go back home to England.

The man, whose name was withheld, was originally on holiday in Pattaya when he ran into a stroke of bad luck officials said.

The man went viral on Thai media earlier this week when he was seen by many at the Pattaya police station nearly naked and disoriented in his wheelchair. Pictures were taken of the man in the police station that were shared on Facebook and other platforms thousands of times by concerned Thai residents.

The man had no identifying documents and appeared to be in his late seventies or early eighties with physical and mental handicaps according to law enforcement. He was unable to answer most questions due to his condition, they added.

This evening, December 26, 2019, Pattaya Police stated they had identified the man, who they had been feeding, clothing and keeping safe for several days and were helping send him back to relatives in the UK. They did not give specific details on these processes to the media.

They also did not explain what the stroke of bad luck was that had set the man to being homeless and destitute in Pattaya at his advanced age.

Pitiful old man at the police station will be “repatriated to Britain”
The Pattaya City Law Enforcement page provided an update on the pitiful case of a western man who had been sitting half naked in a wheelchair at Pattaya police station for days.

In a report that claimed the Thai authorities were “Going beyond duty as friends” pictures showed the old man – earlier said to be about 80 – being given food and drink and loaded onto a pick-up truck in a wheelchair.

Officials were seen posing with him.

The “tessakit” said that he had been handed over to a tourism foundation and would be looked after by them before being repatriated to Britain.

In comments an “author” of the posts seemed to agree with a comment that this was not a tourist. It appeared that the British embassy had been trying to get in touch with the man’s relatives.

Earlier in the week it was claimed online that the man had been at Pattaya police station for 3 to 4 days. The police had given him a blue towel to protect his modesty.

Soiled clothing and shoes were found in a pile as Thais coming and going at the station called for help for the pitiful man.
