Missing Person

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Missing Person

Post by angkorjohn2 »

Hi all,

a buddy of mine has reached out as a relative of a friend of his (convoluted I know) came to Phnom Penh and has gone missing. He was last heard of late Tuesday/Early Wednesday and maybe headed to Pontoon as he was off to a club. I'm sure that he has just got up to mischief or met a new friend and is sleeping it off but I promised I would share with CEO in case anyone has seen him, as there is concern and it is out of character. There is a photo below and his name is Bill, he is Australian, if you have seen him, drop me a PM or if you do see him, ask him to contact his sister.

***EDIT*** ok some further information is that he missed his flight and his belongings are still in the hotel room so I guess some genuine cause for concern

Yes I know he is a grown man etc. but the request has come and I will honor it.

best

John

Ok Folks, the good news is he has been found and made contact with family and all is well, save a bit of embarrassment ....bad news is despite begging I haven't been gifted the story of why he went missing and what he was up to.

Well then, we will just have to concoct our own outlandish version of events.
Slow down little world, you're changing too fast.

So, much ado about nothing right?
I thought it was a bit quick to send out a 'missing person alert'. I mean, since Wednesday morning, seriously?

Let me guess: he met a really attractive girl, who so much loved him that he totally forgot about the booked flight. Not only that, he doesn't want to go back at all, because he has found the love of his life!

I would assume the same Frizzle, and correct, I did explain they may be jumping the gun etc. but I guess the missed flight and possessions left in hotel room were a little to raise concerns

From experience, we know that at least 90% of people reported missing in Phnom Penh by friends and family are not really missing, but why not post their concerns if it makes them feel better. And sometimes, the people are really in trouble, so it can't hurt to put out a missing person report.
In this case, the guy might feel a bit stupid, but lesson learnt I guess.

I did explain that he would forever be on the web with his photo and a lot of idle speculation and perhaps hang on as these cases often resolve themselves.....still a happy ending and all.

I yearn for the days when a man could go missing for a few days with nobody hearing from him, being able to get up all kinds of mischief without everyone armed with a camera and being able to creep back in with nobody but yourself any the wiser of what you'd done! :beer3:
