Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

UPDATE on the cybercrimes law:

December 11, 2019
Interior Ministry continues work on cybercrime law
The Interior Ministry and legal experts are continuing to review a draft law on cybercrime.

Bun Honn and Lam Chea, both ministry secretaries of states, on Monday led a meeting between ministry officials and legal experts to study the draft.

Mr Honn yesterday said the meeting was the “preliminary review” of the draft by his ministry.

“We are referencing cybercrime laws from many other countries, including the United States, Singapore and neighbouring countries, as part of the review,” he said.

Mr Honn noted that the draft law has seven chapters and 48 articles, but will change based on further discussions.

“We held about 20 meetings over the draft law now, and will be reviewing it further in the future,” Mr Honn said, noting he could not estimate when the law would be complete.

“In general, this draft law covers cyber crimes and it will include sentences and fines, too,” he added.

Lieutenant General Chea Pov, director of Interior Ministry’s Anti-Cyber Crime Department, said the law will also cover fake news.

“This law will cover all crimes involved with technology, including fake news,” he said. “This law is very necessary.”
