Best value millet and quinoa in town?

Post by Georgina »

Subject says all. I mean not having to buy more than 3 kilos though. Other alternative grains to rice welcome: barley, sorghum, etc. I am on the wrong continent - hate rice. Only plus of Cambodia is that brown and red (even black) readily available and not expensive.

I see 'ancient grains' in the hoity-toity shops catering to barangs from BKK1. Is there no non-rice grain enjoyed by Khmers? Even at my pits top in Malaysia my favourite home-cook makes some exotic dishes including using a couple kinds of grains popular among Sri Lankan Tamils.

Quinoa is available at NATURAL GARDEN on st. 63 (@ 231 or so). But, it's over $16 a kilo, twice that of what I am used to 'back home'. And finding it in stock there (or at ARTILLERY or at VEGGIES) is hit and miss.

Think I will learn to like rice at 1000 riel a serving. Too bad Cambodia doesn't have a local grain/seed that is very healthy, and cheap because it is popular like the Ethiopians have with tef.
