I wasn't absolutely sure myself after comparing photos. i actually came down more on the side of Echis carinatus, Saw-scaled Viper - because the pattern seemed more cross-hatched than Russells
There are 4 or 5 subspecies but i can find NO references to them in SE ASia. Only Africa to India where they cause many deaths.

I think you are right. Russells Vipers, Daboia russelii, are common here.

This may be a Siamese Russell's viper.
One thing to remember is that different sub-species, and different individuals, can have wide variations in colour and pattern, that is why it is good to check other physical features and compare them with descriptions.
