I can tell you that treatment is required now if you have a DVT. Have you been diagnosed with a DVT or you think you may have one?

I had one that went from left ankle to groin.

It started as a sore feeling on the inside of my left thigh and was just anoying for a few days, felt like it may be an ingrown hair but was getting more painful. A week later it was so painful i was limping and the area and it was warm to the touch. The next week (as a stupid male does) I went to my doctor (in Perth). He checked it and asked how long I had had it feeling sore and I said about three weeks. He sent me for an immediate ultra sound scan and called ahead to advise I was coming. The scan was very thorough and I returned with the results to the doc. He said that it confirmed I had a major DVT extending from ankle to groin/ Next minute i was sent to pharmacy to collect a prescription and return to him again (10 mins)
The medication was 5 syringes of Claxane , a blood thinner. He said to get on the bed so I thought I was getting one in the arse so I lay face down. He said roll over so I did. He said lift up your shirt and when I did he grabbed a chunk of my gut and stabed me with the syringe. As I saw it coming I tried very hard to escape but when you are on a bed your retreat is a waste of time.
Anyhow he asked me if I could inject myself in the morning and I said I don't know. He told me he was making an appointment with the Haematology dept at Royal Perth for * am as this was the most serious he had seen and I needed specialist checks to develop a plan ahead.
The panic was that because of the severity of the blockage and the closeness to the major artery from the thigh that a piece could dislodge and enter my heart, lung or brain causing a blockage and then a stroke .
To make it short I was given a choice of the Claxane injections for six months or warfarin. Warfarin is for life so I chose the needles.
I survived and exercise each day, exercise when I fly, usually get an aisle seat so I can move around.

It is no joke and I am lucky to have survived the male stupidity or waiting to see a doctor.
ps. When they make the needles I think they put a blunt one in every second box just to keep you on your toes.
