Filipino Teachers Asking for Charity Funds were Detained During Water Festival
Two women were detained, and then released, for asking for funds for a vague charity. Is this a missionary donations scam or a real charity ?
Phnom Penh, Cambodia News: Two Filipino women working at Chroy Changva Primary School were detained by Cambodian authorities during the Water Festival at 1:20pm on 12 November, 2019, near the Sokha Hotel in Khan Chroy Changva.
According to the source, the two women had been walking around Chroy Changva during the festival, soliciting funds for a children's charity. This raised suspicions that the women were involved in an illegal enterprise, and the local police asked the immigration police for foreigners to interview the two foreign teachers, and they were taken for questioning.
In the end, a deputy from the school came to vouch for the women teachers and secure their release. They said that during their spare time they raise funds for children in need. However, the name of the "charity" remains vague. Has anyone come across Filipinos "missionaries" in Phnom Penh asking for donations for "Asian children" ?

Holy Mary mother of dod, give these poor girls a break.
Jesus H Christ, pleeease...
Dear God, almighty creator of all things good, i promise to mend my ways if you let these girls go.
They only grew up watching the Holy Roman Catholic Church fleece the Philippine poor for four hundred years and squander it all in unholy sin.
- so they thought they would embark on a little holy sacred quest of their own, in Cambodia.

These filipina women soliciting funds for non-existent “children’s charities” are a plague. There are no contact details of the ‘charity’ available, no website or Facebook page, it’s a total scam for the filipinas to pocket money directly.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the ‘deputy’ of their day job school was in on the scam as well.
I give them short shrift when they come into the bars asking customers for donations.
Many of them are now soliciting in Myanmar, where they are apparently doing well.

If that's true. Next time anyone sees them, ask for the contact details of the charity. If they can't provide this information, report them to the tourist police.
## I thought I knew all the answers, but they changed all the questions. ##

I've encountered them a few times, they have crappy cards and brochures that are obviously fake.jah steu wrote: ↑Tue Nov 26, 2019 3:48 pm These filipina women soliciting funds for non-existent “children’s charities” are a plague. Jeez, you guys are harsh. Where's the Christian spirit during this upcoming high holiday period.
It is for charity after all..........it's just that the charity is for their drunken, shiftless, hammock swinging brothers, uncles and cousins back in Olongapo.

I totally agree. I once moved in with a Filipino lady that came highly recommended by church folks, praising her "Godly qualities". As it turned out, that Filipino woman was totally broke and tried to get me to pay her rent, food, transport etc. During the first week, she had a gullible foreigner over who she told about "all those poor people in the hospital that have no food". That man gave her 100 USD which stayed in the basket on the table to be used the next day to pay her rent (well, most of it).
Obviously I moved out quickly, but I heard that she told people that I was the one who had not paid rent!
If you know a way to report that bitch now, please tell me. I will gladly do so.
