Re: Raw Sewage problem Sihanoukville
History dept. This is around ten years old.
Traveller magazine/ Nat Geo survey of 99 beach resorts around the world.
Sihanoukville rated 3rd last even back then.
""Cambodia's premier coastal resort has some serious issues to address in terms of sustainability, including corruption involved in development decisions, poor waste management, and a low aesthetic of the built environment.
Sewage treatment is nonexistent, and the building code lacks sustainability standards. While a draft-zoning plan designed to protect marine biodiversity and encourage appropriate forms of tourism development was prepared three years ago, it has not been implemented. Short-term profit dominates virtually all activity.
The coastal region is largely undeveloped due to 40 years of economic and social instability and devastating conflict. This is set to change rapidly. Land speculators have bought up or expropriated large tracts of the coastline, displacing the local population and small-scale tourism development.""

Sihanoukville, Cambodia News: According to environmental officials, in a statement made on April 18, 2019, Ochheuteal beach in Sihanoukville is suffering from mixed rubbish waste and plastic that is brought in by sea currents to the Cambodian coastline, but the situation is not worse than usual.
The governor of Sihanouk province has asked the beach restaurants and bars on Occheuteal to help by cleaning their part of the beach.

$200 million needed to solve Preah Sihanouk’s wastewater woes
The government plans to spend approximately $200 million on increasing the capacity of water treatment plants and organising sewage systems in Preah Sihanouk province to prevent wastewater from flowing into the sea and protect the environment.
Finance Minister Aun Pornmoniroth and Transport Minister Sun Chanthol on Tuesday visited water treatment plants in Sihanoukville to study ways to increase their treatment capacity to cope with the increasing construction there.
Mr Chanthol said that with the growth of investment and strong development in the province, including increased construction of commercial and residential buildings, resorts, hotels and factories, the amount of wastewater produced is also rising.
He said that currently, a water treatment plant has the capacity to purify only about 5,700 cubic meters per day, while up to 25,000 cubic meters of wastewater flows from locations in the province daily.
Mr Chanthol noted that more attention needs to be paid towards increasing the capacity of water treatment plants in the province to 64,000 cubic meters per day and that the drainage systems also need to be improved.

Re: Raw Sewage problem Sihanoukville
It is a if this is a surprise to them that there is now a problem.................
Its the same with the electricity supply.
If they put as much thought into the running of Cambodia as they do to running their timber and under the table scams then they would be ahead of the game.

Re: Raw Sewage problem Sihanoukville
They haven’t built four treatment plants so quickly, its impossible. They must be just tanks from where the shit has to be pumped to that big sewage farm. Except that is not a true treatment plant either. The place is obviously doomed unless tens of millions are spent on sewage infrastructure.
And why the power cuts when they built two coal fired power stations about 5-6 years ago. Is most of the power sold to Vietnam or what?

France to set up water treatment plant in Sihanoukville
The French Development Agency plans to invest in a water treatment plant in Sihanoukville and will work out details with Preah Sihanouk provincial authorities in the future.
Eva Nguyen Binh, French ambassador to Cambodia, discussed the plan on Tuesday during a meeting with provincial Governor Kuoch Chamroeun at the Provincial Hall.
Kheang Phearum, Provincial Hall spokesman, yesterday noted that Ms Binh and Mr Chamroeun discussed several issues and clean water supply in the province was one of them.
“Ms Binh noted that AFD has cooperated with Cambodia in the past and invested in clean water supply projects in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap province,” he said. “She said it now wants to invest in setting up a water treatment facility in Sihanoukville to help meet the clean water needs arising from rapid development and a growing population.”

Simply fixed by slowing down the rapid development and depopulating the area.
Spoiler:
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

I highly recommend watching this. Mother Nature Cambodia tested the water at the beach in SNV at the Pasteur Institute in Phnom Penh and...well...you know the obvious results.
