National Road 3 (Phnom Penh-Kampot) will cost more than US$219 million
30 October 2019
With an approximately more than US$219 million will be used to construct a National Road 3 (Phnom Penh-Kampot), the road is believed to be high quality and long term of use.
H.E Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister and Minister of Public Works and Transport said during the inspection of the condition of National Road 3 that by the end of the rainy season, this National Road 3 will be built as AC road with long lasting quality which can be used for up to 12 years. There will also be a temporary repair to ease traffic.
The Minister also requested that the construction company to continue watering the road frequently during construction so that it is easier for people to travel, reduce dust to people who may catch disease or cause accidents during traveling.
National Road 3 will be temporarily repaired for about 20km by the end of December in order to host two big events, including Sea Festival in Kampot which will occur from 27 to 29 December, 2019 and the International Cycling from Koh Kong to Kep which Cambodia will be the host in January, 2020.

A road like that (photo) won't even last 12 months....

I remember watching one of King Norodom Sihanouk's movies from the 60's and he was commenting on the poor quality of the roads despite them being expensive.
I'm sure the tradition lives on today.
On the other hand HE Sun Chantol is recognized as being a competent Minister, so perhaps only 100 million will be lost along the way.

Calm down,,, It's not finished yet, and you cannot see the base metals and big stone base underneath that icing on the cake finish.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

Still not going to be up to the standed of the Romans road builders. I guess somewhere along the way in the last few hundred years the plans and specifications have been lost.

A friend of mine did some road work for the Khmer Rouge. That road is still good. I don't think it cost anything.

Roman roads didn't need to cope with 30 tone trucks pounding up and down every minute just the flip flop of legionnaires sandles and the odd cart carrying their wine and olive oil.
