Sex tourism is changing as travellers seek pleasure in adult-only resorts. Can Asia keep up?

Young adventurers want to make sex-related travel safe and consensual, and a growing number of resorts are springing up to offer that

They’ve ripped apart package tours (RIP Thomas Cook), eschew hotel stays for “authentic experiences” and swap aeroplanes for overland transportin an effort to minimise their carbon footprints and make everyone else feel guilty about flying. Now, millennials and their even-more enlightened zoomer peers are coming for the “sanctity” that is sex tourism.

Among the solutions are a growing number of adult-only, sex-positive resorts that provide a safe, consensual space in which to embrace all expressions of gender, orientation and relationship style. They range from “clothing optional” enclaves to properties that boast “playrooms” in which guests can, presumably, make more than friends.

Unfortunately, none of those featured on a recent list of luxurious sex-positive resorts compiled by popular youth culture platform Uproxx were in Asia, instead being grouped in Mexico and the Caribbean. Perhaps that is because sex-related travel in our region has a significantly more sordid association, one that is largely equated with prostitution, illicit affairs and euphemistically named, rent-by-the-hour “love hotels”. It also plays a complicated role in national economies.

Sadly, though, it will take more than empty words to rid the Southeast Asian nation of an industry that is so deeply entwined in its identity. Could a new generation of sex-positive travellers seeking safe and consensual experiences in place of prostitution be the ones to force the change? Or will Asia be denied the millennials’ increasing spending power as they seek pleasure in places that align better with their principles?

Goddamn, that was annoying garbage. And I've never even been to Pattaya but is there any truth in this:
For its part, Thailand has paid lip service to cleaning up its reputation as a sordid sex hub, reportedly eliminating prostitution from Pattaya’s “sexiest street
” and reinventing it as a place “for upscale travellers”.
:?
Silence, exile, and cunning.

25 detained at Pattaya hotel's 'swingers' party'
PUBLISHED : 22 APR 2018 AT 10:30

CHON BURI: Eleven men and 14 women of various nationalities were rounded up late on Saturday night in a raid on a hotel in South Pattaya in tambon Nong Prue while attending a swingers' party for attendants to swap partners for sexual activities.

The raid on Ban Tulip Hotel in Phra Tamnak area in South Pattaya, which took place at about 11.30pm, was carried out by Bang Lamung district administrative officials with support from tourist police and soldiers from the 14th Military Circle.

Naris Niramaiwong, the Bang Lamung district chief, said the raid was prompted by complaints from local residents that the hotel had frequently organised a "swingers' party" for attendants to swap sex partners.

The party was being held in a room on the hotel's ground floor where 25 people were found naked, performing sexual activities. They included American, Canadian, Chinese, Malaysian, Singapore, German, Thai, Cambodian, Indian and Ukrainian nationals. They were detained for further legal action.

Mr Naris said people wanting to go to the party had to sign up via a website. The admission fee was 1,500 baht per person.

Tried and failed in Pattaya, way too much money being made on the commercial side to allow consenting adults to enjoy themselves. If no one is getting exploited, no one is getting rich

I seriously doubt anywhere in the world can boast similar popularity for 'consensual relations', better than a famous city in Eastern Thailand

According to the Mirror, there were Brits with more than stiff upper lips

Shocking footage has emerged showing the moment cops stormed an illegal hotel orgy - catching sweating middle-aged Brits with a group of young Thai women in the ‘sex capital of the world’.

The dramatic images were released after local police swooped on the hotel having been tipped off about the swingers parties in Pattaya, Thailand, where guests would pay £35 (1,500 baht) to attend.

Cops and army officers carried out the raid at 11.30pm sparking chaotic scenes as naked girls and dozens of men scrambled to cover themselves with towels and hide their faces from the cameras.

Video from a local news reporter captured the moment 18 men were rounded up with their female "partners" clutching them to hide their faces.

The guests - including Brits, Americans, Germans, Canadians, Australians, Russians, Malaysians and Chinese - were questioned and released.
