Re: Starting a youtube channel before my move to cambodia
someone else on this thread suggested i look into his channel. it seems he was very successful at "stirring the pot"; so to say, with his videos and topics. its hard to tell if he is that way for the sake of controversy or just that way naturally, which either are fine with me that is his niche. with all due respect I don't plan on using him as an example for any aspect of what kind of content i will be releasing. may he rest in peace regardlessSmoking Joe Conrad wrote: ↑Mon Nov 04, 2019 12:04 pmGood luck but you have your work cut out if you want to deliver content on a level with No Joke Howard (rip)JamesAlexander89 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2019 10:55 pm

Re: Starting a youtube channel before my move to cambodia
actually i find there are not many people making good content on the living and working experience in cambodia. the pickings are very slim in my opinion due to the fact that the majority of the videos i see on youtube and other platforms are just bar girl/hostess bar videos. just showing where to pick up girls.
the good city, living, and teaching focused videos i think can be done a lot better although there are a few really great standouts in terms of production and overall goodhearted people

I think people suggested NJH as both good and bad, yes he was a loud mouth and lost the plot towards the end but occasionally when he went out into the rural areas or the really khmer areas of PP he offered an insight there and was often respectful of the locals.
You'll get a bunch of naysayers, although thankfully most would be on the other forum (K440), who will criticize you. It all seems exciting and new to you and some things will take you by surprise and maybe give you a rose-tinted view of things, I think we all were once like that but some people are now jaded and bored or take some things for granted what once surprised us, as you've already seen by the odd negative one here. I met a newbie here recently and enjoy reading his posts and musings on Cambodia on his facebook and reminded me to continue to enjoy the weird and wonderful here, much as it has changed from the last decade I've been about it still has its charms.
My only advice in ensuring you are culturally sensitive, do your research so that you understand the political situation and your content and awareness is up to date so you don't inadvertently draw attention to yourself for the wrong reason, think about what topics you will cover and why. As well as stopping people hammering you for getting something seriously wrong (FYI nowhere but Thailand was ever Land of Smiles, not this region - Cambodia may be a land of genuine smiles but never referred to as this).
Also as a teacher under no circumstances think it is ok to share pictures of the children you teach in any vlog, it is not unless you have explicit permission from every parent, child and your principle to do so. I would also caution that maybe you let your employer know what you are doing. Making yourself visible can backfire spectacularly - as NJH found out.
Best of luck.

Nothing wrong with No Joke Howard. He has a lot of deep insight into the rural areas.

Between this comment and the one about the burnt meth still being "good" I am starting to think this is a parody account.
Re: Starting a youtube channel before my move to cambodia
Well, yes any comment about No Joke Howard had to be tongue in cheek since he was quite the character.
But the Meth could be confiscated and distributed for legit purposes, no? Examples could be as an aid to weight loss or as something to keep the troops alert during wartime?

Whose tongue between whose cheeks Marty? An excellent idea, I strongly suggest you take your suggestion up with the local gendarmes, be sure to take your passport with you of course.Marty wrote: ↑Tue Nov 05, 2019 7:26 am Well, yes any comment about No Joke Howard had to be tongue in cheek since he was quite the character.
