British Army veteran killed by bar bouncer in Thailand

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

British Army veteran killed by bar bouncer in Thailand with single punch

An army veteran was killed by a bar bouncer in Thailand after being accused of not paying his bill.

Mike Jones-Mathias, 55, who retired as a major from the Corps of Royal Engineers, had stopped at a bar on the way back to his hotel when he called emergency number 911.

But just five minutes after he called the number he was caught on CCTV being punched to the floor by a security guard.

The footage shows him walking backward in the main street outside before throwing a punch to the air.

He is approached by two men - and is then hit to the floor with one punch.

The inquest heard the security guard was charged with grevious bodily harm for the punch and faced a trial in Thailand.

But he was found not guilty after claiming self-defence - claiming Mike had attempted to leave the Mandarin Agogo bar without paying his bill.

I may be going to hell in a bucket,
but at least I'm enjoying the ride.
