Cambodia continues to deny Taiwan’s request to establish representative office

Responding to complaints from Taiwanese businesspeople, Ministry of Foreign Affairs says Cambodia still insists on ‘one China policy'.

By Taiwan News -
November 20, 2019

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said Monday (Nov. 18) that Cambodia has yet to approve the Taiwanese government’s request to establish a representative office in the country after Taiwanese business owners complained about the inconvenience of document processing.

According to CNA, Lee Chia-fen (李佳芬), the wife of Kuomintang (KMT) presidential candidate Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜), visited Cambodia on Monday and listened to business owners’ complaints about not having a Taiwanese representative office in the Southeast Asian country, making document verification extremely difficult and time-consuming. The business owners bashed the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and said that all document filing has to be done through Taiwan’s representative office in Vietnam.

The diplomatic relations at ambassadorial level was established under the provision of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of April 18, 1961.

It was formed “based on the principle and purposes of the charter of the UN and international law, particularly on the respect for and promotion of international peace and security, equality among states, national sovereignty, independence, international treaties, territorial integrity, and non-interference in the internal affairs of states”.

The communique was signed by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Permanent Representative of Cambodia to the UN Ke Sovann and Henrietta Elizabeth Thompson of Barbados.

Its a good thing Cambodia is expanding its international relations but almost all the countries it is expanding with are accused of money laundering, people trafficking, corruption, extra judicial killing, people traficking adn so on. This is not going enhance the status of Cambodia in the rest of the world. At the moment we have a power struggle between corrupt states on one side and less corrupt states on the other (none are incorrupt). The corrupt states are winning. Kiss Europe and the US goodbye

Good to know that Sweden and New Zealand are such repressive governments and horrible places to live.

Obviously Cambodia is making an end run around the EU decisions by increasing trade between the member nations and around the world. An overall win for its people.

pczz - that’s a glass so half empty idea. I’d be miserable thinking that way all the time. Is there any country that you would prefer to live in that isn’t too corrupt for you? Heaven, maybe?

Life is too short to fill it all with rage and bitterness.

I did say in my post "almost all" countries. I know they are also dealing with some more reputable nations, but very few. Please read before replying to posts.
I am neither in a rage nor bitter. I was just pointing out the obvious.
