Illegal Logging: Amazing Elephant Made From Chainsaws in Mondulkiri
Great work.
Cambodia News: An elephant statue has been constructed from 300 chainsaws confiscated from forestry crime. The elephant statue will be exhibited at Sen Monorum National Park in Mondulkiri.
On October 13, 2019, Mr. Net Pheaktra, the secretary and a spokesman of the Ministry of Environment, said the elephant statue was made from 300 chainsaws, which are evidence of the large numbers of illegal loggers. The elephant is 2,80 meters from foot to the trunk, 3.10 length, 2-meter at the waist.
A worker from Kampong Speu spent seven months to finish building the elephant statue. The purpose of making that elephant is to show people the large numbers of chainsaws which have been confiscated by forestry officials and kept at five offices in the conservation area. The chainsaw is the most popular equipment for cutting trees in the forest.
The Chainsaw Elephant statue is telling people to stop using the chainsaws to cut the trees; it reminds people to protect the elephant herd and to make money for the community from tourists who come to see the forests and wildlife.

"A worker from Kampong Speu spent seven months to finish building the elephant statue"
"The worker" deserves to have his name lit up in polished chrome and flashing headlights
but I suppose that is not really the Khmer way.
Check the other stuff lying around the factory floor - Does anybody know anything about this little sculptural hot spot?

It is good work if it gets the message accross to a few. Also reminds me of the statue in BattambangSternAAlbifrons wrote: ↑Tue Oct 15, 2019 3:01 am I'm going to shoot it with an RPG

Let's hope when it takes its position in the park they don't cut a few tree's down that maybe in it's way.
Always "hope" but never "expect".

Good work with the "reminds me" thing, Andy!

The revolver is cast out of metal from old weapons rather than welded together out of old pieces. There's a bird statue at Wat Phnom made out of guns. I knew one of the people who started Weapons for Peace and they have quite a few benches and other pieces made out of guns. They can fetch high prices but are difficult to export.
Silence, exile, and cunning.
