Top Banlung Policeman Shot Dead by Cop in Coffee Shop

Cambodia Breaking News (Ratanakiri): This morning, on October 3, at 9:10 am, the deputy head of the Ratanakkiri Provincial Criminal Office, Porn Tum, was shot to death in a coffee shop in Kansaing village, Banlung city, Ratanakiri.

The man accused of the murder is also a police officer and friend of the victim. He has been identified as Nuon Makara, aged 31. Witnesses say that he drove up to the coffee shop, executed the victim with his gun, and left the scene in his car in a matter of minutes.
The case is said to involve a dispute over a woman; what the media likes to call a "love triangle".

Rattanakiri’s Criminal Deputy Chief Shot Dead, Personal Issue

Rattanakkiri (FN), Oct. 3 – A police officer Phon Tum, serving as deputy chief of Ratanakkiri’s criminal division, has been shot dead at about 9 a.m on 3 October 2019 in a cafe restaurant located in the city of Banlung, Ratanakiri province in the northeast of Cambodia bordering Vietnam.

Phon Tum was shot in the head by Nuon Makara, who is an economic police officer, according to Gen. Phen Dina, Rattanakiri’s deputy police commissioner.

The suspect Makara, who was arrested at 10:45, confessed that he did shoot Phon Tum owing to personal issue.
Makara was sent to provincial police commissariat for further legal procedure, and his Nissan pick-up was confiscated.

In an audio recording attached with the report, a provincial police officer claimed that Mr Tum had an affair with Mr Makara’s wife, who recently separated from her husband.

“Most people living here have known that Mr Tum stole Mr Makara’s wife. They were trapped in a love triangle for a while,” the officer noted. “Mr Makara usually joined workshops in other provinces and the wife cheated on him.”

“They were both friends but Mr Tum also use to taunt Mr Makara over the affair. I think he could not take it any longer and decided to kill Mr Tum,” the officer added. “Most villagers here knew what was happening between them but did not think he would do this.”

'Loss of Face!!!!!'. Behind many of these tragic events there are 2 factors. 1) A woman (2 ) A 'loss of face' that needs sorting out.

The consequences of the pay back are not important to the person who has lost face.
