...possibly with one exception.
They should have handed "those most responsible" for KR crimes
over to a motodop and tuk tuk drivers roadside tribunal.

Re: The fight against ‘popular justice’ in Cambodia
i'm not arguing about this or that kind of justice's benefits, but about the fight against street justice in Cambodia, just....good luck with that, because of a few points :
- The historical culture of violence around here (based on recent history only, riplle effects from the KR era)
The teens getting into grim business and get busted nowadays have been raised by a traumatized generation, with all kind of education needs unfullfilled. Won't be better before a while, need to rebuilt a morality system upon an ocean of needs.
- The lack of commitment from authorities when it comes to serve & protect : what do you expect from the justice when KR got away except two of them, after what, 20 years of trial procedures ? When the guys in charge are related to the one who were in charge then ? When you have to motivate them with cash in hand, otherwise no need to move a finger ?
- The "saving face always"mentality. All derived from pressure from somewhere (above, family, tradition, money urge, whatever pressure) but it surely follows the wind, as many prefer to be wrong in groups instead of being right standing alone, even if it means contradicting themselves.
- The kick of it. Release time, with the feeling of being right, with instant results. A rare opportunity. That might be the biggest trigger with the feeling to be stomped on by authorities.
In a general way, for me they are treated badly, and react so when they have a window, as long as they don't risk too much to get caught. Makes me think about beated kids torturing their pets, sometimes.
My feeling.

It looks like it doesn't deter them from crime, because they still commit unit caught.

There was plenty of retribution against KR chiefs in 1979, many were lynched.SternAAlbifrons wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2019 2:08 am ^^^
