Renting a full shuttle van from Thailand to Phnom Penh

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Maybe check out option of taxi-van from Bangkok to Koh Kong City.
I understand Thai registered vehicles can cross border no hassles into KK province (only??).
Then you could unload at hotel or similar in Koh Kong and arrange cheap van to PP.
Much better that trying to do that on the border.

(better check, i am not 100% sure about this)
I would say Thais are more interested in going to border towns to visit the casinos. But if there as been no law changes, if the driver has the appropriate documentation for himself and the removal van why could he not travel on into the country?
I did the move from Koh Kong to Phnom Penh some time back, it took some time to get anyone interested due to companies in the capital city being payed huge amounts by the Chinese customer, the results were very high fees that were asked, I could have just replaced, bought all new items in Phnom Penh.
Eventfully over a period of time I managed to hire a driver and his mini-bus for $100 door to door service.

That would be great. Taking a single vehicle through the border would save on a round of unloading and loading.

Trying to unload and load across the border is kind of scary, lots of things could go wrong there.

Find a friend that has a van/pick up with a top in his name, (must be in his name to exit Thailand) and pay him OR someone that has a van in Cambodia willing to drive over and help you.
DONT use Poi Pet border, but use Osmach or Koh Kong crossing

If you go commercial option, might end up paying tax

Good info, thanks. I'll look into finding someone with a truck to help.

I think the Irishman has given good advice.
And KKAndy's quoted price of $100 for large van or small lorry (3/4 tonne?) KK-PP door to door is about right.

Yeah, my friend that moved went through the Koh Kong crossing, which he described as being "probably the sleepiest crossing between Thai & Cambo".

Also, he had all of his plastic boxes counted and numbered in order to keep track of them. They were something like this, clear (can see if something is missing) and with a lid that can be securely snapped shut.

Plus, I imagine he personally escorted the most valuable stuff, a flatscreen tv, a PC and a mountain bike. Most of the other stuff was just books, clothes, etc.

I suppose you could try to find some with a latch that could be locked with a padlock if you need extra security.

^I had a friend too whom came through Koh Kong border. He was OK but they had his new address and the customs came knocking on his door armed with a tax import bill. Pay now or take your belongings. He negotiated the cost from over $1000 down to $700 and lost half of his belongings.

Ha! I'm glad to hear the province hasn't lost its reputation for banditry!

So far from 6 taxi companies, 2 have turned me down (they don't want a bunch of luggage in their van) and the other 4 didn't respond. Another guy with a large 6 wheel moving truck quoted me $400 from the Cham Yeam border to Phnom Penh. If a taxi company would have said yes it would have been $150 or a little less.

Does anyone know a mover with a pickup truck willing to go to Cham Yaem? That would be the best vehicle for this move.
