It certainly wasn't for anyone. It was place for people like you and for the backpackers. Now the city at least has wider range of hotels and more entertainment (movies and shopping for example). As long as the the infra is fixed it actually might come a place for everybody (=families, couples, backpackers, single guys..) like Phuket or something similar.

I go there multiple times each year. Last time in May. Which cinemas they exactly closed? As far as I know there has been only these "home cinema" type places before and at least one of them is still open. Later this year they will open 2 new big proper cinemas with Imax theaters and all. You know, real cinemas.

Several shopping malls are under construction. First one should open next month already. Also multiple local as well as international brand shops have been opened this year already.

There are multiple new 3* to 5* hotels that have been opened within year or so. And several more will be opened in coming few years. End of 2020 there should more rooms online then ever before and most importantly there will be everything from small guesthouses to big hotel resorts. Before there was only small, mainly badly managed, hotels and guesthouses and then over priced Sokha and Indepenced Hotel.

I spent some of the best times of my life there.

So family from Europe comes to Asia for 2 weeks holiday. You think the wifey or the daughters are happy to spent the whole time in a 50cent beer hut? Well I see you like your brother and chicken farm tours. But the point was that was Sihanoukville place for anyone before? No. It was for backpackers and brothel tour people.

I live here, there are no new hotels only casinos where are you getting this information??? or do you mean the tower blocks like blue bay with prices higher than London?, one small chinese shopping centre is being built and will be far too expensive for locals and probably employ chinese only, most other constructions have been cancelled due to the new governor coming down firm on illegal builds with no permits. Family from europe will stay and eat where? all the restaurants on beaches have gone, including Otres. Where will they eat? there is hardly anywhere left to eat. You need to visit again and have a reality check!! I will post photos later you will be shocked its changed much even since May

not forgetting see chopped up bodies, daily kidnaps and fights, traffic , rats and collapsing buildings....
It really is not going to be a destination for families unless things really change, right now with 95% of businesses owned by chinese it will not happen
All projects on Otres 1 beach have been cancelled its now just a mess , everything is closed
