Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

It's a bit like America and her guns, how many more people need to die before a change in the way of thinking?

There are always a significant minority who consider themsleves to be more importnat that anyone else. the only way to make them tow the line is stricter laws and law enforcement. I read some research somewhere that half the gun detahs in the USA are suicides. Even if you take them out, the figures are still pretty high. Even in countries with tough gun laws violent death is on the increas. Just lok at knife attacks in the Uk which have reached epidemic proportions.

The crash was caused by fast and risky driving. The driver lost control of the car and no other vehicles were involved. All five people were killed instantly at the scene.

Literal translation of the news from a Khmer article:
Kompong Thom: A Tragic Car Accident With A Balloon Driving Off Like A Flying Pig And Lack Of Care An overdose crashed at a curb, causing multiple overturnings and five women in the car to die. All right.

A number of news outlets did say that five women were killed, but Khmer news sources tend to copy each other, so it's not surprising that they say the same thing without fact checking.

However, my information is that a 26-year-old man from Phnom Penh, a policeman with the Ministry of the Interior that posts on Facebook as Duk LEak, was reportedly driving the car, which belongs to him. (See below.)The four passengers were all women.
Image
As you can see, this man's accidented car is the same car as the OP. (Number plates.)

I have checked the information as thoroughly as possible. The same car is featured in a photo on the social media page of Duk LEak here.

According to the report of the authority:
1: The driver of the car, a police officer in the Ministry of Interior (deceased).
2-Passenger Oun Chan Theary, 34, lives in Village 4, Svay Luang Commune, Kandieng District, Pursat Province.
3: Passenger Lach Srey Mom, female, 26 years old, living in Phsar Village, Peam Commune, Bati District, Takeo Province.
4: Passenger Dok Chanvilak, a 26-year-old female resident, lives in Boeung Keng Kang 3, Khan Chamkarmon, Phnom Penh (deceased).
5: Unidentified passenger (deceased).
The exact names are all unverified.
