Re: Scary Confirmation of fears about work visa/work permit
Fair comment. My thought is that if it was sanctioned, and if it was successful, it would have stormed the rest of the country as the latest cash cow... maybe it's just taking a while to mobilise. I imagine that if some fool gave immigration officials a list of expat names and home addresses in another khan, they would pull the same stunt, but I would have expected this to take more hold by now if it was going to be introduced across the Kingdom.taabarang wrote:As for Stroppychops, "this" I remember all of those and could add a few to the list having lived here for many years. However unlike these petty bullying issues this one is a real cash cow that the provincial fiefdoms will revel in. Again, I hope I'm wrong, but politics has been weird lately and I don't feel that requesting and sharing information is the same as conducting a fear campaign. This-suit yourself.
Honest question - worst case scenario, what would this cost an working expat initially, and then per year?

That may depend on how you define 'working expat'.StroppyChops wrote: Honest question - worst case scenario, what would this cost an working expat initially, and then per year?
I'm a working expat, and it's not going to cost me any more next year than it has in the past. My employer pays for my Visa and Work Permit (as they should!). I pay taxes to the Cambodian Government.
As for, let's say, low level teachers in language factories, that may be a different kettle of fish. It will be interesting to see how many of those schools will be happy to cough up for the Work Permits.

Re: Scary Confirmation of fears about work visa/work permit
The ONLY good thing about this, if/when they really start enforcing it widely, is it might scare off many new people in the potential work force who won't work here if their employer won't handle it all for them.
