Cambodia is now officially one of Southeast Asia’s most expensive countries for expats.
https://www.emigrate.co.uk/news/2019092 ... TGBgbtKQfcThe respected Numbeo Cost of Living Index has revealed what expats already living in the popular country already knew – from being famous for its ultra-low cost of living, Cambodia has now jumped to a higher ranking than those of Vietnam, Indonesia and the Philippines. Costly Singapore’s top ranking came as no surprise, nor was Thailand’s second highest cost of living score, but Cambodia’s fourth place came as a shock due to its lack of development to date and the fact it’s always been seen by expats as a super-cheap location.
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

Hm. Cambodia hasn't been super cheap for a long time. (compared to its neighbors)...
Saigon, Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur are all cheaper compared to Phnom Penh.
One more year in Pp and moving elsewhere... =)

I'm guessing the survey assumed high rental costs, i.e. condos at $1000+. Probably just took numbers from the internet and didn't dig down to get the true data.

Apartments in Vietnam are much cheaper than Phnom Penh. Outside of Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville l guess much cheaper. $300 a month in Vietnam would get you the same as $450 in Phnom Penh.
Thankfully beer is priced about the same.
Visa situation in Vietnam is now an issue. 3 months and border run needed. Cambodia retirement 1 year visa is much better deal.

That surprises me given rents are cheaper in SR.

Bought 1L of yoghurt and 500 gram of muesli today, spent over 10 bucks on it. Back home less than 3. Just an example.
