Thaksin & Yingluck to establish government in exile
This is BAD news
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-05-24/f ... er/5475648
Ousted Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra's lawyer has revealed Thaksin, recently ousted leader Yingluck Shinawatra and other leaders of the sharpening divide in Thailand will establish a government in exile.
Robert Amsterdam says so far there is no identifiable host state but it is believed by Red Shirts that there are a number of nations set to offer a safe place.
Proximity would imply a neighbour state like Cambodia, but it could invite military retaliation and sanctions from an angry and humiliated Thailand.

Nothing good can come from this.
Let's hope it's just fear mongering, but with his ego he won't take recent events lightly.
If a separate government was to set up somewhere else let's hope the Cambodian government are not stupid enough to get involved.

Strange time to be touting that idea given the key players are in military detention and unable to travel overseas. Hold on, haven't we just had a government in exile anyway.

Boogyman Politics. It's leverage to protect the people in detention. Like when Hitler invaded Poland.
FUD to the General. What happens to his power when another exile-Gov goes to the UN?

The things is that this coup (like the last one in fact) give instant credibility to the Tasking family.

Thing is also that the Yellow want more or less to drive the foreigner out.
This put the Japanese quite ill at ease and is the reason why big Japanese company ( Toyota among them) choose to keep their present investment in the country (no real choice of course) but not to invest in new infrastructures. The U.S company who had to renew investment also follow this line.
End results Thailand enter economic recession for the first time in its history.
Due to the political turmoil toursim activity also went down 12%, this is less of a problem as the situation is in fact quite safe for tourism and the tourist have short memory anyway. Not so the case for the investor, who once the the investement are made are more or less trap for many years, their analyst also have quite long memory.

Ho and yes the Bath will go down and this associated to the lower tourist flow (less work for the tourism worker) will translate in "Party time" if you are paid in any other currency than bath and can travel to Thailand.
So do not worry if a movement of foreigner came to Cambodia due to the Curfew and such, high probability that they will go back to Thailand quite soon.

If anything it shows the majority of Thais' want Thaksin and his whole clan OUT of politics.
Once that happens Thailand has a chance to move forward . With the failed Rice scheme, even his power base in essan will not defend him.
Nobody wants the Farnag out of Thailand, ( they LOVE the tourist that comes for 4-10 days and drops $150/day) BUT they do want the bottom feeders gone ( hence reason for enforcement of the visa exempt policy)

I think the Shinawatra's lost all credibility evading justice, controlling the govt from afar, installing family members and relatives as PM's and in other key military/police security positions, and managing to drive a previously thriving economy into one that is now facing serious challenges due to their mismanagement. All in a very short space of time.
However if the majority of Thais wanted rid of them and expressed that opinion at the ballot box there would be need for a coup. The Royalists, old guard elite or whatever you call them know they can't win democratically and I guess are worried how this will affect their own interests re the succession issue.
It's power and money number one whichever way you look at it, not necessarily uniquely Thai but it sort of defines the place for me.
