RIP Ric Ocasek (The Cars)

Post by Username Taken »

Ric Ocasek, the lead singer of '70s rock band The Cars, died of heart disease, the New York City medical examiner's office confirmed. He was 75.

According to a press release Tuesday, Ocasek died of hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. In addition, pulmonary emphysema was cited as contributing to his death, which was listed as natural.

The musician passed away at his home in New York on Sunday.

Ocasek was a founding member of the Cars, recording numerous hit songs from 1978 to 1988. He played rhythm guitar and sang lead vocals for a majority of songs (bassist Benjamin Orr was lead vocalist on the remaining tracks).

when I heard the news I played The Cars on Spotify, I let it play through the most played in order, forgot how many great songs they had
surprised he was so old, guess they did come out in the late 70's

discovered that a song I always liked by Letters To Cleo was actually a Cars cover "Dangerous Type"

The Cars was my first concert, in 1979 I guess, with opening act Flock of Seagulls. The Cars were pretty good.

I still listen to their first three albums.

Bit off topic, but weren't they once voted as the ugliest band?
